The Skrabl organ in St Michael’s, Lyme Regis, will be the focus of the South Wessex Organ Society's 2025 winter course.

The works of JS Bach’s predecessors will form the core of this absorbing event, which runs from February 24 to 26.

The tutors are Philip Scriven, Andrew Millington and Peter Parshall with artistic director Peter Lea-Cox and administrator Richard Godfrey.

Key elements include a talk on the influences on JS Bach from 17th century composers and instruments in Germany, France and Italy, and experiencing music employing 17th century tunings, with their history and key colour.

There will also be a rehearsal of Buxtehude’s Cantata Aperite mihi portas justitia with an opportunity for coaching in keyboard accompaniment, using the Lammermuir continuo organ. Finally, there will be a session exploring the young JS Bach with the Neumeister Collection and a recital by Philip Scriven.

Full details from the SWOS.
